Current cupping therapies are adaptations of an ancient technique from the Egyptians dating back some 3,500 years, the Chinese dating back to 1,000 B.C. and in ancient Greece.
Cupping therapy utilizes glass, plastic, and silicon cups to create suction on the body surface. Cups can be moved, kept in place or pumped on the skin for a short time to facilitate joint mobilization or soft tissue release. This suction reaches deep into the soft tissue and attachments bring benefits such as; pulling inflammation and toxins from the body tissues so that the skin and lymphatic system can readily eliminate them, scar tissue often releases quickly despite the age of the injury, dispels stagnation of blood, enhances the flow of blood and oxygen through the tissue, muscular aches, scars and adhesions, toxicity, cellulite, lung inflammation and congestion, headaches, bursitis, tendonitis, plantar fasciitis and much more.
Cupping does not cause bruising. Skin discolorations such as, red circles, pink or red streaks, marbleizing, and/or speckling (brown and/or purple) are old blood, stagnation and congestion trapped in the tissue and will dissipate 1-7 days depending on the individual. The more cupping therapy is used on the individual, the less stagnation (skin discoloration) will be seen.
Receiving cupping can be uncomfortable for some people and there are certain areas of the body that are more sensitive than other parts of the body. But the results are very positive and when cupping is used in a treatment series, the results are cumulative.
